Post N71 Vodfaone Japan ver.
Hello! I bought N71 Vodafone Japan version (Vodafone 804NK), and this phone cannot be accepted self-signed applications and themes.
(related: http://mobilephonedevelopment.com/archives/240)

It can be installed only Symbian Signed applications and some themes by MrG in here.
They are only "Fire", "Full_Forms", "Mechanic" and "Grey".

I don't understand the difference between the installable themes and disinstallable themes.
(Symbian singed or something like that?)

so I will be glad to discuss the difference and please tell me your opnion.
thank you very much for reading my message!

1. You can only themes use which maked for 3rd edition devices (N80, N91, N93 and so on)

2. Check your phone settings about software installation "on" and certificate check "off", because themes must not symbian signed.

Series 60 devices using Os 8.0 or higher, will need to edit the security settings to install 3rd party themes.

Go to - Menu/Application Manager/Options/Settings

Software installation = ON
Online certificate check = OFF

Thank you for your reply!

I downloaded themes maked for N71, so I passed "1".
The best problem is "2". N71 Vodafone Japan version doesn't have "Software installation".
The phone supplier (Vodafone Japan) deleted the item.
(please see the screenshot: http://up2.viploader.net/pic/src/viploader272198.jpg)

So this phone can be installed applications only with Symbian Signed.

If I downloaded a theme maked for N71 and installed in this phone, there would appear a message "Certificate Error. Contact the application supplier."
I think the phone supplier close something, but I don't know why this phone can't be installed some themes.
I will be glad if you know something about it.
thank you Very Happy

I don't know if it so, because your phone has a vodafone branding and with the install from software it could be, but with themes?
Also i don't know exactly if the way to activate/ deactivate on all phones the same.

On my phone (but it is a second edition) must i go this way: Menu -> Tools -> Manager -> Application downloads -> Options -> Settings -> Software installation on / Online Cert. Check off.

If you can't find any option to enable/ disable you can only install "Symbian Signed" things, but i think this is only for software and not for themes, because i don't believe that Mr Dakku use "Symbian Signed" for the themes.

Other chance is to flash your phone with the original nokia software to delete the vodafone branding.

....or other member have a better solution?

Post Toshi is right
I completely agree with toshi.

I am also from Japan and I also own the N71 phone (released in Japan by Vodafone on August 12). Like what toshi said, this phone does not have the "Software Installation" option. However, the option regarding Certification is already set to "Off" by default.

I have also tried installing themes and even ringtones. No matter what I do, with themes, I get the error "Certification Error" and with Ringtones I get "Unable to set as ringing tone, file is unprotected"

I'm guessing the softwares that come with the Japanese N71s are slightly different to what the rest of the world's N71's currently have installed.

I have tried installing pre-3rd edition themes (.sis) AND 3rd edition themes (.sisx). Neither work.

To add to that, EXACTLY like him, my phone accepts the themes "Fire", "Full_Forms", "Mechanic" and "Grey" by MrG. and that's all. Nothing else.

Please advice, I've searched all over the Internet for an answer to both me and toshi's problem but I cannot seem to find a source that explains this drama. I appreciate your help and I'm sure toshi would too.

Regards,
Kevin
