Post how to make valid key and certificates for 3rd edition theme
This guide is for who have problem with generating certificate key in theme studio 3.0...

NOTE
this tutorial was written by supertonic
source

Arrow symbian.mobilethemes.com

simple english.....my english is sometimes too simple Mr. Green

I have tested the whole sunday afternoon and evening, reading post over post in other forums, but there the user have the same problem and nobody has an answer. They all say:" look at page 91..."

I'm reading page 91 and i think we have the year 1995 and not 2006. That isn't user friendly what on this page are standing.
You can create great themes and must open the dosbox to create a file with command line..

I'm going this way: i opend the folder of the themestudio and then the folder "bin". In this folder is the dos file "makekeys.exe".(in themestudio 1.2, i don't know wether the file in v 3.0 is on the same place) Doubleclick on makekeys.exe. I see for a short time the command prompt opened and closed.
Then i open the command prompt and write "makekeys" -> enter

And now the solution, you type this:

makekeys -cert -dname "CN=Name OU=Company" company.key company.cer

(Name and Company is as example, you must write your name and company e.g. Footballplayer for the name and Manchester for the company)

Then you will asked about a password y/n ,type n.
Generating private key.....
Move the mouse within the window or press keys to generate random data
I have pressed the right cursor key.....
......random data collected.
Then you see the text with the information that the private key is generated with a keylength of 1024 bits. Created certificate company.cer.

After creating, i have the files not found, but windows has a search function.
search for the file "xxxxx.cer" and you found it.

I hope that is simple enough.

hope this helps some people in creating wonderfull themes for symbian OS version 9.1 3rd edition Very Happy

of course its possible to create a 2nd edition theme with TS3, I did it myself (one time  Laughing )
and you dont need certificates for the 2nd edition because of the possibility *install anyway*,

well you know ive just recently found out the 3rd edition devices have the install anyway feature on too Confused so apps and games dont need to be signed atall, its only apps which require deep system access which need to have a key and valid certs and be tested by symbian signed.. so looks like we can still install apps same as before Very Happy Very Happy

but i dont know how this applies to themes, i will try and find more out about it and keep yall posted Wink

Post Copy and paste
I'm a little bit surprised, to find again an original from me written “Topic” .

This topic is a complete copy from here ( post nr.18 ) :

http://forum.mobilethemes.com/showthread.phtml?t=345&page=2

You write this:
"i never write this, and dont know who did, so no credit goes to me, im just posting for the benifit of the members of this forum, and thankyou for writing this guide who ever you may be."

Confused

That's not right, my name stands there "Supertonic". I think that's not fair and too simply.

You should remove the post and instead of its make a link.

Thank's  Smile

I don't have a problem, which any things are possibly taken over by me, if they are helpful.

Wink

But sometimes also much work is into it and therefore my ask to write a link and the name of the author.

More details with more options about "create a certificate" you find here:
