 Analogue clock on Nokia 6630
I was pointed to this forum by Elton off the AllAboutSymbian boards.
Have to say, some quality themes so far, looking forward to more.
Anyway, I have recently bought a Nokia 6630, and have found a problem with 3rd party themes.
Instead of me typing it all out again, please have a look here: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32978
Any info much appreciated

welcome Fannypad.
yes its a strange problem indeed. I wouldnt have noticed it since I never use analogue clocks. However i have checked the analogue clock on Silver Ninja and that does not appear to have any masking problems on my 6630.
you might be right in your post at ABS, the masking problem may be due to the themes being made in old version of theme studio.
I will investigate this further at the weekend and let you know.

Thanks for the reply
Apparently it is something to do with the themes being made in an older version of Theme Studio, as I've since seen screenshots of other themes taken on the 6630 without this problem.
But any more info would be cool.
Cheers!

Hehe, since posting that I saw some screenshots of themes on the 6630 with correctly-rendered clocks, described as being made in the latest version of Theme Studio using proper masks, so it's only logical.
Anyway, I've come to realise that the analogue clock is completely useless for reading the time with a quick glance, so this point it moot

My point exactly. I like accuracy. hence all digital clocks.
anyway i looked into the problem briefly and it appears that the new version of Theme Studio accepts masks in inverse mode (balck to mask, white to show), whereas the old was was the reverse. It seems that the 6630 can render the icons without a problem, but somehow can not inverse the masks of the clock from old themes. I will continue with the investigation and update this thread when I have more info.

Hi there.
As i already explained at allaboutsymbian, the problem is not the mask, but the thememakers, who didn't touch the mask in the themestudio. Only objects, that you change and save in the studio are added to a theme(recognisable from the liitlle checkmark besides the saved image in the top row). All the other object, that are visible in the studio but kept unchanged are not included into the sis file and will be taken from the phones default theme. So a lot of thememakers only changed the first graphic in the analog clock. This image will be used. If you leave the rest as it is, the clock default graphics are used instead. This works fine most of the time, since most analog clocks are made from a circular image. So the standard round mask of the s60 default theme will accidentally still fit perfectly. The problem with the the 6630 is, that the default analog clock is no longer a circle but a rounded rectangle. So now this graphic is used as the default mask and all old round clock with no real masks look strange. The only way to prevent this is to change or just touch&save all objects you need, so that no default images are used. So open the mask in e.g. photoshop, save it unchanged and this clock problem will be solved. I hope this explanation is written clearly enough for you to understand.

Thanks you for your excellent post. This explains a lot.
I guess in that case there is no other way apart from re compiling the "bad" themes for 6630.
Cheers

Excellent post, Catolino. Now the mystery of the analogue clock on my 6680 is solved.
How do you get back to the phone's defaults if you find that you prefer them or want to start over?
