Post new user : Nokia 6630 Mac OSX G5 file transfer help
Hi All,

Nice forum. Please excuse my (complete) lack of knowledge, but having just purchased a 6630 and connected it via USB to my G5 - no drive icon shows up on the desktop. Can anybody shed any light on this - I want to start transfering music and themes!

Many thanks.

Fozzy

Hi Fozzy,
Welcome to Dakku Studios and congratulations on your new purchase. I hope you are spending a lot of time with it.. haha

Anyway, I assume you are using the DKU2 (usb) cable that came with the phone. In order to get your computer to recognise the phone and work, you need to install the Nokia PC Suite you can install it from the CD that came with the phone or download the latest version from the link below:

CLICK HERE to download Nokia PC Suite 6.6

If you have followed all the above steps and still cannot get it to work, then please post the exact nature of your problem along with yoru system specifications.

EDIT: OPPS,  JUST RE READ YOUR MESSAGE AND SAW THE WORD G5..
you cannot connect a DKU2 to a mac. you need to use iSync and bluetooth to browse and transfer files. No more no less. dead easy.. Are you using Tiger 10.4.2?

Cheers
DK

Hiya mate,
If you are using 10.3.9 you cannot use iSync to sync your phone with OSX. 10.3 does not use SyncML, the prefered protocol of 6630 for syncing. However, all is not bad. YOu can still send files to your phone using the bluetooth in 10.3.

I wouldnt bother with Virtual PC, it doesnt really help, its too slow, plus I think Nokia PC Suite requires hardware compatability too..

So your options are not all that bad:
1) Upgrade to Tiger (Who wouldnt want to get the worlds most advanced OS)
2) forget the iSync and use the normal bluetooth file transfer to send yourself the files.

Let me know if you need further help.

I found an interesting topic relating to Virtual PC, Nokia Phones and OSX.. perhaps this is of some help to you:

Virtual PC, Mac OS X, Nokia PC Suite and Nokia 3650

Thanks
DK

Many thanks for that, mate. appreciated.

Tis strange, as my Mac recognises the phone as a modem in the network set up...just not as a 'drive'…
